This book contains the complete story of C&O’s H-8 class 2-6-6-6 type steam locomotive, built between late 1941 and late 1948 and in service through late 1956. Arguably the H-8 was the largest and most powerful steam locomotive ever built. A 244-page book, numerous chapters in other books, and many magazine articles have dealt with it, but none have been in print for more than a decade. The purpose of this book is to fill that gap, and to take a slightly different look at this fabulous locomotive and its famous but all too short career.
